Terpenes 101: how myrcene, limonene and pinene shape your high
If cannabinoids set the volume, terpenes set the character. They’re the same aroma compounds found in hops, citrus peel and pine forests — and they’re the honest signal behind “this one feels different.”
The big three to know
Myrcene — earthy, herbal, mango. The classic “heavy,” relaxing lean. You’ll see it dominate cultivars like Auto Desfrán.
Limonene — bright citrus. Associated with an uplifting, mood-lifting feel, as in Amsterdam Amnesia.
Pinene — fresh pine. Often linked with a clearer, more alert head — it’s the lead terpene in Auto Ultimate.
Why the “fingerprint” matters more than any single one
No terpene acts alone. It’s the ratio — the full fingerprint plus the cannabinoids — that predicts the experience. That’s exactly what our cultivar pages show, and how we predict effects from chemistry rather than from an indica/sativa sticker.
Use it when you shop
- Want calm? Lean myrcene-forward.
- Want bright and social? Look for limonene.
- Want clear-headed? Pinene is your friend.
