How to read a cannabis COA (certificate of analysis)

A COA — certificate of analysis — is a lab’s report on what’s actually in a product. It’s the difference between a shop’s claim and a measured fact.

The four things to check

Total THC and CBD — potency, and the THC:CBD balance that shapes whether it’s intense or gentle.

Chemotype class — is it THC-dominant, CBD-dominant, or balanced? This one label tells you more than indica/sativa ever will.

Terpene profile — the aroma fingerprint that steers the feel (see our terpene guide).

Safety screens — pesticides, heavy metals, microbials. A clean pass is what you’re paying a licensed lab to confirm.

On WeedYouLike, cultivars with a lab report show the full fingerprint — cannabinoids, terpene bars and an effect prediction with a confidence score. Auto Ultimate is a good example to explore.

Once you can read a COA, you stop buying names and start buying chemistry.
